Contributory Parent visa (subclass 173)

This Australia Contributory Parent Visa gives the parent of an Australian citizen, a permanent resident, or an eligible New Zealand citizen the benefits of living in the country temporarily.  The parent must be out of Australia at the time of lodging the application. The benefits of this migrating overseas include:

• Applicants can live, work and study in the country for two years.
• They will get health coverage through Australia's health insurance scheme called Medicare.
• They can visit Australia often for two years from the date they are granted this visa.

Contributory Parent visa (subclass 143)

This Australia Contributory Parent Visa gives the parent of an Australian citizen, a permanent resident, or an eligible New Zealand citizen the benefits of living in the country temporarily. The parent must be out of Australia at the time of lodging the application. The benefits of this migrating overseas include:

• Applicants can live, work and study in the country for two years.
• They will get health coverage through Australia's health insurance scheme called Medicare.
• They can visit Australia often for two years from the date they are granted this visa.
• They can apply for Australian citizenship after meeting the requirements.
• Applicants can sponsor any of their relatives who are eligible for permanent residence

Eligibility Criteria

• The sponsoring child must be an Australian citizen, an Australian permanent resident visa holder or a New Zealand citizen.
• The requirements for health and character has to be met by an by the applicant
• Half of the applicant's children must be Australian citizens, permanent residents or eligible New Zealand citizens.
• The sponsoring child must provide a support bond assurance (which is held for 10 years) for parents applying for a permanent residency in the Contributory Parent category

For applicants whose child is below 18 years old, their application can only be sponsored by:

• The child's guardian or relative
• The child's spouse who's 18 years old or above and must be an Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident visa holder or a New Zealand citizen.
• The spouse's guardian, if the spouse is lesser than 18 years old, but must be, must be an Australian citizen, Australian Permanent Resident Visa holder or a New Zealand citizen.
