DAMA-Australia
The Citizenship, Immigration, and Multicultural Affairs Minister performed two consecutive notifications this week on Designated Area Migration Agreements (D.A.M.A's). The first is the DAMA renewal for the Northern Territory, which was scheduled to expire at the year end. The second is the declaration that a D.A.M.A has been approved for south-west Victoria. A few wonders have come from this publication, the greatest of which is that both D.A.M.A's will have a permanent visa pathway.

Designated Area Migration Agreements Support Towards Australian Regional Areas

D.A.M.A's are overarching labor contracts negotiated within the Home Affairs Department and particular States and Territories to help with critical skill deficits in distinct regions that cannot be matched by the Temporary Skill Shortage (Subclass 482) Visa program. It involves an authorized list of semi-skilled professions and may involve concessions for pay and English language proficiency.

For the region of Northern Territory, D.A.M.A II as it has been dubbed will expand the semi-skilled professions number possible by rising them from the 117 presently listed.

The minister has also presented known that a D.A.M.A is being analyzed for Western Australia remote parts, adding to an earlier announcement that the Orana Region in central north NSW and Cairns in Queensland are also regions of interest.

That D.A.M.A’s will have a route to a permanent visa and will give a substantial incentive for abroad nationals to look for jobs in regions where D.A.M.A's work should they have the required English language proficiency and skills.

With the chance of a permanent visa, it appears that the Australia government is committed to giving regional areas more engaging for migrants, particularly since improvements to the non-regional Employer Nomination Scheme (Subclass 186) visa requires candidates to be nominated in a profession on a comparatively short list unless they are subject to the arrangements which are transitional.
