Approximately 47% of the small Canadian firms are suffering from the skilled labor shortage, found the monthly Business Barometer survey accompanied by the Canada Federation of Independent Business (C.F.I.B). Because of the labor deficit, many companies are required to limit hiring of workers while for several others, it is diminishing the growth of their businesses. The manufacturers that indicated the tremendous level of labor shortage were transportation, construction, natural resources, personal services, etc.

The survey of Business Barometer is managed by the Canadian Federation of Independent Business (C.F.I.B) every month. The Oct 2018 survey noticed that Canadian labor shortage had increased 10% correlated to Jan 2018 and 20% correlated to Jan 2016.

Shortage of Skilled Labor in Other Canadian Provinces

The provinces of Canada that face the biggest level of the labor shortage are Quebec, British Columbia, and Ontario. However, all these Canadian provinces have taken extraordinary efforts to tide above the crisis.  Quebec has taken remarkable crucial steps to solve the shortage of labor problem, particularly in the Montreal region outside. The current system of Expression of Interest started by Quebec supports the province to choose eligible skilled workers for immigration below the Quebec Skilled Worker Program.

Intending to select qualified Express Entry applicants with desired skills for immigration, Ontario has changed the least C.R.S score requirement to pass for its Stream of Human Capital Priorities. Prior, the applicant was expected to have 400 C.R.S points to fit for the stream of Human Capital Priorities. Now, it is up to the responsibility of the director to determine the least required scores. Most of the current draws to the stream of HCP had expected scores beneath 350 for applicants with a job offer from an Ontario employer.
