The Federal Govt has announced recently that it will launch much awaited new temporary sponsored visa for the parents of migrants in 2019 after the Federal Parliament bill passed to the visa.

Today, Federal Senate has passed the (Family Violence and Other Measures) Migration Amendments 2016 Bill with Govt’s amendments and it was continuously passed by the lower house, initiate the way for rolling out the temporary sponsor visa that the communities of migrants have been requesting for so many years.

Immigration Minister David Coleman said that “This temporary sponsored visa will help for a family reunion and stay valuable time together. it will offer a new way for grandparents and parents to meet their families who are living Australia, which offers amazing social benefits to the community of Australia,” he added.

However, Mr. Coleman took focused at the worker party that against the Govt’s changes to the legislation after it basically voted in favor of this. “It is amazing that the Labor Party voted opposite to this key legislation. Bill Shorter requires to describe to labor communities why he said his Senators to be in the way of this reform,” Immigration Minister said.

Shayne Neumann, Shadow Immigration Minister said the Federal Government must deliver the visa which is promised before the 2016 Federal election that includes various conditions which were not a part of the Temporary visa when declared.

Rules like this will force families to select which in-laws or parents they reunite with. Labor had already written to the David Coleman who is the Minister of immigration expressing their impacts and the worries,” Mr. Neumann said.

The Promised visa

Migrant groups organized a campaign for a Temporary Sponsered Visa for migrants parents and during the campaign up to the last election, Turnbull Government was promised a parent-sponsored visa which would enable parents to stay in Australia for a period of 5 years.

In the parent visa relieved in May 2017, the Federal Government declared that applicants will be able to get a 5-year visa for $10,000 or 3-year visa for just $5,000 or with the chance for a renewal for more 5 years for the same price. Migrant communities, as well as experts, called into a query that the “very high” fees for the sponsored visa.

Migration agent in Melbourne, Jujhar Bajwa said that “I don’t know if many migrant communities will be eager to the sponsored visa for their parents, but unfortunately won’t advise anyone choose for it. It is not making good sense to pay such a high visa fee,” he added.

New Sponsorship Framework

With the fresh Bill passed by the Parliament that was launched in 2016, a new sponsorship framework has been keeping in place under which immigrants are interested to sponsor their parents, would manage financially.

Mr. Coleman said that“This latest visa will guarantee family reunions are happening for many families of migrant across Australia while securing taxpayers with tough guidelines to guarantee all public health debts comprising aged care and hospital fees are returned by the Government of Australia", he said.

Mr. Bajwa expressed that “The high amount of fee isn't the only the problem, there's a necessary requirement for health insurance coverage from sponsor and if the parents get health issue, the sponsoring people are obliged to return fee back than paying such heavy amount. Whereas in the basic travel visas, there is no such provision,” he says.

The latest sponsorship visa framework will also create a two-step visa application procedure that includes a test of the sponsor and once acknowledged then temporary sponsor visa application will be uploaded. This deal is mainly aimed at securing unprotected, family members, especially married partners, children from their violent sponsors.
