New Brunswick Political Panel Says Canada Immigration Needs Improvements

The immigration system of Canada requires to become more empathetic and understanding of today's challenges, as per the immigrants panel residing in the New Brunswick province.

Major Obstacles with Current Immigration

Discussing problems such as a family reunion, entrepreneurship, and training certification, four panelists on the CBC Political Panel New Brunswick Podcast, explained what they view it as a rigid, old system.

Kjeld-Mizpah Conyers-Steed, the New Brunswick Student Alliance executive director, and also worked for the government of the province, told her fellow panelists' stories of problems operating the system reveal the need for immigrants to be at the policy-making table.

The discussion on enhancing the immigration system appears at a time when the population of New Brunswick is aging, and the New Brunswick province has the second-lowest rate of growth in the nation after ten years of the drop.

Some specialists see increased immigration as a path to buck the trend and strengthen the economy of the province. The immigrant population of New Brunswick has increased over the past couple of decades, but it still estimates for a minuscule amount of the entire population.

Within 2001 and 2016, census data reveal the immigrant population of the province has grown from 22,355 to 33,810. The bigger, on the whole, make up 4.6% of the population.

Dr. Anthony Njoku knows problems related to reunion and certification all too well. After going to Fredericton located in Canada from the U.K., his wife, an endoscopy nurse who worked in the UK, wasn't authorized to work without a minimum of additional two years in the university. That becomes an immense strain for me, in the family, he told. She has not worked since, and I challenge you can guess what that indicated in terms of her well-being.

The panelists also addressed starting a business, the demand for political will, and the problem with holding immigrants.
